Welcome to term 3

Dear Parents,

Welcome to term 3.

This term we are learning about ancient civilisations.

As part of our topic we have an exciting trip planned to Jim
Thompson's house on Monday the 9th of May.

Year 5 will be creating various replica objects from ancient
civilisations throughout the term. Therefor we would like to
invite you to attend a guided tour of their ‘Ancient Artefact
Museum’ on Tuesday the 20th of June at 14:15.

Terracotta, Warrior, China

This term Year 5 will read non fiction texts about ancient civilisations. They will analyse information, focusing on text layout and language features.
Students will also explore authors styles of writing by comparing the works of significant children's author Roald Dahl. They will read fiction class text Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl and re enact parts of it during literacy lessons.
The class will revisit previous spelling words from throughout the year during spelling tests and will work on spelling punctuation and grammar as well as learning new vocabulary.

Please keep doing spelling homework and remember to try and use new vocabulary words as often as possible.
This term students will revise what they have learnt so far this year and focus primarily on decoding and solving trickier word problems. Children will also be challenged to write their own word problems.

We will also learn about place value in large numbers and decimals, fractions, decimals, percentages, averages and using the four operations (-+x÷) to solve various problems.
The weekly times tables challenge is ongoing this term and competition is getting fierce. Make sure to keep practicing the times tables regularly, to reach the top of the times table pyramid.
